What is OG Hats?
Welcome!
My name is Sara Gilliam, mother of Owen. Owen was
born in December of 2007 with a condition called
Hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a build up of fluid
around a babies brain that causes their heads to be
enlarged. Because most of these children are born
premature, hats are especially important to maintain
their body temperature. Clothing companies do not
make infant hats large enough to fit them.
So, my mother and I decided to make Owen some soft
cotton hats of his own. Then we started to think about
all the other little babies with Hydrocephalus. Owen's
need became the inspiration for us to create "OG
Hats". Making hats for other children with
Hydrocephalus that we will donate to hospitals across
the US.

We have received so many encouraging comments
already...
"My daughter Emily Faith was born at Penn state
hershey medical center in July 2008, with
hydrocephalus caused by an arachnoid cyst. My
husband and I found out about her diagnosis at my 20
week ultrasound. I thought I was prepared for her large
head. I brought hats size 2t-3t, but they were not large
enough. The only hat that fit her before surgery was the
hat that you made and donated for her. As a mom I am
truely thankful. Your hat not only kept her warm but it
gave me hope and comfort. Thank you!"
"Thanks for being an inspiration to other families" - St.
Louis Children's Hospital
"This is a great idea. I always have problem of finding
the hats to fit my baby... Her head was 49cm when she
was 3 months."
"I think what you're doing is fantastic!"
Our Mission Statement OG Hats is a non-profit, volunteer based charity whose mission is to provide large infant hats for babies born with Hydrocephalus.
